FAIR in Asheville! Meet the Director: Katie Jones
Katie Jones, co-founder of Wishbone Theatre Collective and co-artistic director of Magnetic Theatre, is our director for FAIR! FAIR has been a wild journey since we began devising three years ago (its almost hard to believe!). Katie lead us through various devising methods in the developing process and also helped us be performance ready when it came time for LA fringe.
Katie has worked professionally in Sarasota, New York, Chicago, and Denver before coming to Asheville. She worked in the education departments of Asolo Rep, Northlight, Steppenwolf, and American Theatre Company, where she directed programs for marginalized communities and served as an artist-in-residence for Chicago Public Schools. Katie worked as a puppetry artist for Von Orthal Puppets and Theatre Zarko, with whom she performed in the Steppenwolf Garage Rep Series. She was also fortunate to direct a workshop production of Small Game by Neofuturist playwright, Lily Mooney.
In 2008, along with several of her colleagues, Katie founded Wishbone Theatre Collective, with whom she directed Maybe, Baby, It’s You, and Vigils. She co-directed SPANDEX, which performed in Chicago and Edinburgh, and was a guest production at Clemson University. Katie has a BA from Clemson University and an MFA in Contemporary Performance from Naropa University. Her MFA thesis project, The Last Supper, was voted “Best of Fringe” in the Boulder International Fringe Festival. You can catch her directing at Magnetic Theatre regularly!
